No. 15 Queens Overpowers Lincoln Memorial

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The 15th-ranked Queens Royals took care of business as they rolled past Lincoln Memorial University 22-6. The win moves the Royals overall record to 6-3 while improving their impressive in-conference record to 6-1.

Queens' entire team enjoyed the success today as 15 different Royals found the back of the net in what was truly a one-sided contest. Once again, the Queens attack trio was the catalyst of the potent offense. It was not the usual front three, however, Quinn Tallant and Tyler Ewen picked up the slack each producing four points. Jack Riddle performed at a high level filling in for Kealan Pilon and finished with three points. Eli Morin helped out from the midfield with a hat trick while Kevin Barry and Nic Austin both contributed two goals to the unrelenting offensive display by the Royals.

Queens did not waste time asserting their will on their opponent as Barry scored inside the opening minute of the game. The Royals would control the opening five minutes of the contest jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Queens attack slowed down as the Railsplitters were able to get on the board but bounced back tremendously as the final 10 minutes of the first quarter saw the Royals take a stranglehold of the game closing out on a 6-1 run. Queens went into the first break ahead 9-2.

The Royals once again came out firing at the start of the second quarter scoring within the opening minute. Queens kept the pressure up the entire quarter making Lincoln Memorial uncomfortable on both sides of the ball. The offensive opportunities seemed endless for the Royals as their defense remained tight and didn't allow many chances. Queens ended up outscoring the Railsplitters 7-1 in the frame, taking a commanding 16-3 lead into halftime.

The Queens attack would slow down in the second half as the team rotated the bench and younger players got some much-needed game time minutes. The third quarter had much more of a back-and-forth flow as both teams were running the field and creating chances. The Royals were able to capitalize off their offensive looks and beat Lincoln memorial 3-2 in the quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter Queens held onto a healthy 19-5 lead.

The fourth was very similar to that of the third with little action on the score sheet but plenty between the lines. Both sides were hungry for more goals, but the bounce of the ball favored the defense in the final frame. Queens closed out the game scoring three straight goals highlighted by Brenden Hennessy's first goal of the season.

The Royals were too much to handle in all departments and proved the Railsplitters were overmatched. Queens outshot Lincoln Memorial, 59-17, and hit the net 37 times compared to the 12 managed by the Railsplitters. Both teams had trouble hanging onto the ball as Lincoln Memorial suffered 27 turnovers and the Royals committed 19 of their own. The Railsplitters found trouble running through the teeth of the Royals ride only clearing the ball 17-27 for a 62 percent success rate. Queens was able to clear the ball comfortably doing so 14-of-17 times for an 82 percent success rate.

The Royals were also ground warriors today not giving their opponent any easy off-the-ground chances. Queens ended the day with 51 ground balls, which was three times as many as Lincoln Memorial managed with 17. Additionally, the Royals were nearly perfect at the face winning 29-of-30.

The Queens Royals are back in action Wednesday, April 7 as they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina to take on South Atlantic Conference opponent Limestone. The clash with the Saints is set for an 8 p.m. start.
