ANDERSON, S.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (8-24, 4-24 SAC) traveled to Anderson, S.C. to take on Anderson University (28-10, 16-8 SAC) in their final series of the season splitting the doubleheader with the Trojans.
Game One: Anderson 8 – Queens 2
With the Trojans' Matti Cantrell recording a two-RBI home run in the bottom of the second, Anderson took a 2-0 lead. Mackenzie Haver then followed that with a three-RBI homer in the third to put the Trojans in front 5-0.
The Royals were able to respond in the sixth when
Haley Hmiel blasted a ball over the left-field fence recording two RBI as
Breanna Martinez had gotten on base after being hit by a pitch.
Unfortunately, the two runs would be the only for Queens in the game as the Trojans were able to add a pair of runs to their score in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a home run from Kayson Boatner and a double from Hannah Whitaker.
Shannon McGuire and
Khristen McPherson both saw action in the pitching circle in game one. The duo would total five strikeouts as McGuire recorded the loss. Anderson's Harlie Duncan would get the win after striking out seven batters.
Game Two: Queens 1 – Anderson 0
In game two, both teams had trouble getting their bats going but the Royals were able to come out on top after taking advantage of the Trojans' pitching mishaps in the third inning. After being walked,
Kayla Smith advanced to second base on a wild pitch. She then advanced to third on a sacrifice-bunt by
Breanna Martinez before reaching home plate on another wild pitch to score Queens' winning run.
Queens' defense then held strong for the remainder of play allowing the Royals to hold on to their 1-0 advantage and end the season on a high note.
Victoria Elder pitched all seven innings in game two to pick up the win while Sarah Middleton took the loss for the Trojans.
