NEWBERRY S.C.- The Queens University softball team (2-4, 1-1 SAC) faced Newberry (10-2, 3-1 SAC) this afternoon splitting the doubleheader with the Wolves to open South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves took game one, 9-0, while the Royals won game two, 4-2.

Game One: Newberry 9 - Queens 0
In game one, Newberry's offense was on full display scoring nine runs on 10 hits. After Haley Simonds hit a home run in the first inning with two on base to take a 3-0 lead early, the Wolves increased their lead to 5-0 scoring one run in each of the second and third innings. Hailey Hill then homered in the fifth with bases loaded to bring things to an end.

Game Two: Queens 4- Newberry 2
The Royals redeemed themselves in game two outscoring the Wolves in extra innings to complete the series split.

Queens would be the first to get on the board in the top of the eighth taking advantage of the runner placed on second base in extra innings.
Chloe Linton singled to centerfield to bring
Adriana Wilson home for the unearned run. However, a wild pitch would allow the Wolves to even the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the eighth.

In the ninth inning,
Ashlyn Mickler recorded an RBI on a single up the middle that brought
Breanna Martinez home.
Haley Nelson then entered the game as a pinch hitter, cracking a home run to left field to record two RBIs and give Queens a 4-1 advantage. Newberry then scored once more on their final play of the day to give the game its final score.

Queens will be back at home Friday, March 5, to face Augusta University at The Tuck in a doubleheader scheduled 1 and 3 pm.
