Queens Handles Trojans to Advance to Conference Semis

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team has advanced to the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship for the third straight season after defeating Mount Olive, 6-0, this afternoon at Bessant Field.
 
Maya Forbes scored today's game-winner in just the seventh minute of play. Her goal was soon followed by one from Gabe Lechner in the 8th minute of action giving Queens a 2-0 lead early in the game.
 
Queens then added four more goals to the board in the second half, finding the back of the cage once in the third quarter and three times in the fourth.
 
Lechner scored her second of the day and eighth of the season in the 43rd, while Victoria Tredinnick scored twice in the fourth. Additionally, Sarah Heacock scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 51st.
 
Jill Sherman and Erin O'Reilly each recorded an assist this afternoon.
 
The Royals outshot Mount Olive, 23-1, putting 10 shots on goal. Additionally, Queens earned 10 corners to the Trojans' three.
 
Queens will play either Newberry or Converse in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship on Friday, April 2 at 5 p.m.
