CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (4-1-1, 4-1 SAC) faced Newberry College (3-4, 1-4 SAC) this afternoon, defeating the Wolves 1-0 and sweeping them in the regular season play. With the win, Queens extends its win streak to three.
Queens attacked early as
Taylor Ward opened the game with a quick shot that the Wolves goalkeeper, Delaney Hood, saved.
Eirinn McCafferty followed placing her shot just wide of the net before
Mia Manuel scored the only goal in today's match in the 10
th minute of action.
Newberry placed just one shot on goal, which was saved by Queens'
Erica Turner, as the Royals took the 1-0 lead into the half. A half that would last over 30 minutes due to a torrential downpour and lightning in the area.
In the second, Turner held off Newberry's attempts to even the score notching three saves to total four saves on the night and record her fourth shutout win of the season.
Queens will look to keep their winning streak alive when they travel to face Limestone University on April 1. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
