MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team improved to 3-2 on the year after collecting a dominating 8-0 win at Mount Olive this afternoon.
Gabe Lechner and
Jill Sherman led the Royals with two goals each while
Millie Eaton-Jones,
Maya Forbes,
Ava Moser, and
Erin O'Reilly added one goal each. Moser's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
Sherman scored what would be today's game-winner in just the fourth minute of action. The 1-0 lead stood until she found the back of the cage again in the 27
th scoring off a rebounded save. O'Reilly then added her goal to the count in the 30
th to give the Royals a 3-0 lead at the half.
Queens didn't waste time in the third quarter as Forbes quickly scored in the 32
nd minute to put the Royal on top 4-0. A goal from Eaton-Jones soon followed in the 36
th to give the game a 5-0 score heading into the final quarter of play.
Moser's first collegiate goal would come in the 48
th minute and Lechner wrapped the game with a pair of goals in the 59
th and 60
th minutes to provide the game its final score.
Queens outshot the Trojans, 21-4, putting 15 shots on goal. Additionally, the Royals earned seven penalty corners in the win.
Avian Thompson and
Marlee Geppert split time in goal for Queens to total three saves.
Queens is back in action at home on Friday, March 26 when they welcome Newberry to Bessant Field for their final regular-season game of the season. The Royals will also celebrate Senior Day on Friday.
