CHARLOTT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 (18-15, 25-20, 25-12, 20-25, 15-7) setback to the Trojans of Anderson University (S.C.) on Monday night inside Curry Arena.
The Royals fell to 4-3 overall and 4-3 in South Atlantic Conference play after hitting .093 in the match as the Trojans (4-2, 4-2 SAC) collected 17 total blocks at the net. The two sides combined for 199 digs in what proved to be a defensive battle from the start.
Queens opened the match with a .263 hitting performance in the first set of play as
Anna McLain,
Casey Tarvin and
Chanel Turner combined for 12 kills in the frame to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead.
However, Anderson answered with back-to-back wins in the second and third sets and hit .500 in the third frame without committing an error to build a 2-1 match advantage. The Royals responded with a five-point win in the fourth set, holding the Trojans to a -.022 hitting mark to force a deciding fifth set.
In the fifth frame, Anderosn jumped out to a 5-1 lead to force a Queens timeout before ending the match on a 6-3 spurt to steal the road victory.
Tarvin led the Royals with 13 kills and had 17 digs for her fourth double-double of the season and
Abbey Criser came off of the bench to record eight kills in three sets of play.
Brooke Farley contributed 41 assist and 12 digs, while
JayCee Jones totaled a season-high 32 digs.
Kate Majewski chipped in 18 digs as a reserve to go along with two service aces and
Logan Witt had six total blocks in the middle.
The Royals are on the road for their next match this Saturday when the team travels to Limestone University for a 2 p.m. match against Limestone University in Gaffney, S.C.
