Game Recap: Baseball |

Queens Baseball Swept By No. 25 Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – A four-game series against the 25th-ranked Eagles of Carson-Newman University for Queens University of Charlotte baseball came to close on Sunday afternoon as the Royals dropped both games of a doubleheader, 3-0 and 7-0, and the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Game One: No. 25 Carson-Newman 3, Queens 0 (Seven inn.)

Queens starter Nick Charleson (2-3) pitched his third straight complete game in the opener and kept the Royals within striking distance by allowing just three runs (two earned) on seven hits. However, the Queens offense tallied just three hits and grounded into two double plays.

Carson-Newman scored first in the opening inning on a Queens throwing errors before adding another run to their total in the second. The Eagles' final run came in the fifth inning on a ground out to third with runners on second and third.

Noah Jones was 1-for-3 in the contest with a double, while Carter Foster and Zach Weston also recorded one hit apiece.

Game Two: No. 25 Carson-Newman 7, Queens 0

In the series finale, Carson-Newman once again scored in the bottom of the first for an early lead to give starter Mason Mooney all the run support he would need for his first win of the season.

The Royals threated in the seventh when Mason Picke doubled to right center with one out and Anthony Molinari walked to put two runners on but both were left stranded. A four-run eighth inning by the hosts put the game out of reach.

Riley Cheek led the offense, going 2-for-4, while Pickard was 1-for-4 with a double.

Zach Kelly tossed 1.1 inning of relief for Queens and did not allow a hit and Caleb Staley pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Royals.

Queens will return to the friendly confines of the Tuckasseegee Dream Fields next weekend to host national power Catawba College on Saturday and Sunday.
