PHILIPPI, W.VA. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team (1-0) defeated Alderson Broaddus in 7's competition, 29-14, to win its season opener.
In its first of two Saturday matches, the Royals jumped ahead of the Battlers early and won by multiple scores.
Freshmen led the way for Queens with newcomer
Jessica Gozlan scoring two tries. Fellow freshmen
Rachel Holloway,
Haliegh Golden, and
Sienna Phillips each scored one try to propel the Royals to their first victory.
Queens returns to Charlotte for next week's home opener on March 27.
