HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team moved to 2-2 this afternoon after collecting a 4-3 win at Coker University.
Sophomore midfielder
Gabe Lechner led the Royals after recording a hat trick and one assist in the win.
Jill Sherman added one goal and
Millie Eaton-Jones tallied two assists.
Avian Thompson collected the win in goal after totaling a pair of saves in 60 minutes of action.
A quick goal in the first minute of play gave the Cobras a very early lead before Lechner knotted the match at 1-1 with her first goal of the day in the ninth minute.
Sherman's goal then came in the second quarter on an assist from Lechner allowing the Royals to take a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the third, Lechner found the back of the cage again in the 34
th after receiving the ball from Eaton-Jones to put Queens in front, 3-1. However, Coker soon found an offensive rhythm scoring back-to-back to tie the match up once again, 3-3, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Lechner's game-winner would come in the 53
rd minute as the Royals didn't allow the Cobras to get off a single shot in the fourth period.
The Royals outshot the Cobras, 12-8, and put nine shots on goal compared to Coker's five. Additionally, Queens earned six penalty corners in the win.
Queens is back in action at Mount Olive on Tuesday, March 23 at 2 p.m.
