No. 6 Queens Tops Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C.- The No. 6 Queens University of Charlotte Royals traveled to Mars Hill, North Carolina where they defeated the Lions 20-4. With the win, the Royals move to 5-1 overall and remain a perfect 3-0 in conference.
 
Leading all scorers on the day was Ally Blood who produced a master class performance accumulating eight points on a hat trick and five assists. Rachel Perrett was able to expose the defense multiple times and finished with five points on a goal and four assists. Shannon Donovan contributed a hat trick and Carson Giordano helped with a goal and two assists. Sydney Bracken, Kyleigh Masteran, and Shannon Kingston each finished with two goals.
 
The Royals started the game and seemed flat in the opening moments, conceding the game's first goal just over a minute in. However, Queens took the opening jab and used it as a wake-up call answering thirty seconds later. The Royals would jump all over their opponent articulating an electric 20-minute stretch producing 11 unanswered goals. The teams traded goals in the last five minutes of the half as Queens took a healthy 12-2 lead into the break.
 
The second half had an oddly similar start to that of the beginning of the game as the Royals once again allowed Mars Hill to score first and take the early momentum. However, Queens seemed to be following the same game plan as they responded a minute later. The Royals created another small run yielding three unanswered goals. It took the Lions almost 15 minutes to score again but at the halfway mark the score stood 15-4 in Queens' favor. The Royals closed out the game with another suffocating stretch of play outscoring their opponent 5-0 in the final 10 minutes.
 
Queens controlled the game from top to bottom and annihilated their opponent in the team stats. The Royals managed 53 shots with 44 hitting the net as Mars Hill finished with 11 shots, 10 finding the cage. Queens was able to limit their turnovers to 13 as the Lions committed 25. The Royals went a perfect 27-27 clearing the ball with ease. Mars Hill found Queens' ride to be implacable. The Lions only successfully cleared the ball 10-25 for a 40 percent success rate. The Royals swarmed ground balls and came away with 36 as the Lions finished with 22. Queens was also able to win 19 of 25 draws on the day.
 
In goal, Madi Bednarik recorded the first win of her collegiate career.
 
The Royals are back in action Saturday, March 20 as they welcome Lenoir-Rhyne to Dickson Field. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
