Royals Fall in Doubleheader with Saints

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (5-9, 1-5 SAC) faced Limestone University (11-11, 3-5) this afternoon at The Tuck falling in both games of the SAC series.

Game One: Limestone 6 - Queens 1
Trailing 3-0 after four innings of play, Kayla Smith got the Royals on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. However, her run would be the only of the game for Queens as the Saints scored their final three runs in the seventh inning.

Shannon McGuire saw action in the pitcher's circle all seven innings recording four strikeouts, while Haley White of Limestone recorded the win with four strikeouts as well.

Game Two: Limestone 3 – Queens 2
The Saints got on the board early in game two scoring a run in the first inning. However, Queens would fight back with Breanna Martinez recording her second home run season in the fourth to tie the game up, 1-1.

Neither team would get back on the board until the seventh inning when the Saints scored two runs in the top. The first RBI was recorded on a single to left field from Vic Brewington and the second on a sac fly from Desiree Bain.

Queens had a chance to answer in the bottom but could only get one runner across home plate when Chloe Linton singled to centerfield to bring Mary Sullivan home. Queens' final two outs of the inning would come with runners left on second and third base.

Victoria Elder took the loss after pitching all seven innings and striking out three batters. Carolina Ruth took the win for Limestone after collecting seven strikeouts.

Queens will be back in action for another doubleheader tomorrow, heading to Lenoir-Rhyne for SAC play. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
