Queens Collects First Sweep of the Year at Home Against Hillsdale

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (5-7, 1-3 SAC) faced Hillsdale College (6-9, 0-0) this afternoon at The Tuck sweeping the Chargers in the doubleheader.

Game One: Queens 1 - Hillsdale 0
Hayley Nelson's bomb over the right-center fence in the second inning would be all the Royals needed to collect the win in the first game of the day.

Shannon McGuire pitched all seven innings and totaled eight strikeouts for her second win of the season in the pitching circle.

Game Two: Queens 3 – Hillsdale 2
Game two got off to a slower start with the Chargers being first to get on the board with two runs in the third inning. However, the Royals responded quickly when Chloe Linton hit a home run to cut the lead, 2-1.

Queens' Sabrina Martinez scored the Royals' second run in the bottom of the fifth. After singling to left field, she stole second base. Then back-to-back wild pitches from the Chargers allowed Martinez to even the score at 2-2.

Queens' final run to claim the game came in the sixth inning when Kayla Smith singled to left field. Smith then advanced to third on an error by the Chargers left fielder, before reaching home on an error by Hillsdale's first baseman.

Victoria Elder pitched all seven innings to collect her third win of the season.

Queens will be back at The Tuck tomorrow for another doubleheader, hosting Limestone University in SAC play. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
