CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) loss to King University (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.
King (3-1), the three-time reigning Conference Carolinas regular season champion), hit .350 on offense and were led by senior Joshua Kim with 16 kills and a .500 hitting performance on the right side. Queens (2-7) struggled offensively and hit .133 as the Tornado collected 11 total blocks.
After a win in the first set, King hit .538 in the second to claim a 2-0 match advantage. Queens led early in the third set, 6-4, following a service ace from sophomore
Daniel Leitao, but a 4-1 run but King ahead by one point.
The Royals quickly went back in front and held a 17-16 lead, however, the Tornado used four unanswered points to go in front by a 20-17 score. King held on for the match win, scoring five of the matches final seven points.
Three Royals finished with six kills each in seniors
Tristan Santoyo and
JP Payne and freshman
Fletcher Murphy. Murphy hit .444 in the middle and Payne followed with a .417 hitting mark of his own.
Queens continues its four-game homestand on Tuesday, January 9 with a non-conference tilt with Emmanuel College (Ga.) at 7 p.m. from the Queen City.
