NEWBERRY, S.C.- The 15th-ranked Queens Royals picked up their first win of the season on the road at Newberry, 12-10. Tonight's contest was the Royals first South Atlantic Conference meeting moving their record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.

Quinn Tallant chipped in with two goals and Adam Barry contributed a single goal to round out Queens' scoring. Kyle Hornik played another integral role in the teams' win with 14 saves.

The game was a thriller in every sense of the word as both teams traded blows in a seesaw battle. Barry started things off for the Royals just 55 seconds into the game with a powerful downhill dodge putting Queens up 1-0. Newberry was able to answer shortly thereafter to level the contest. A pair of unassisted goals from Barry and Ewen five minutes apart gave the Royals a two-goal advantage, but the Wolves offense kicked it into high gear with two goals in 30 seconds to knot the score, 3-3, at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams change defensive assignments slowing the pace of play. Queens was able to capitalize on a few kinks in Newberry's defense putting up three in a seven-minute span giving the Royals a 6-3 lead. However, the Wolves were once again able to cut into Queens' lead as the Royals went into halftime ahead, 6-4.

Newberry was able to build off the momentum of their late first-half goal, scoring three in under two minutes to open the second half, and Queens found themselves behind for the first time in the game, 7-6. The Royals' offense took nearly 10 minutes to find their feet in the second half but did so with an absolute howitzer from Austin Leonard bringing the game level at 7-7.  A man-up goal re-established the Wolves lead before Adam Barry's fantastic spinning solo effort brought the game back even, 8-8, at the end of three.

Ewen flexed his muscles in the fourth quarter with a pair of goals where he outworked and beat multiple opponents on the way to highlight-reel finishes. Queens had an 11-8 lead with eight minutes to play. A pair of late Newberry goals put everyone on the edge of their seat with the Royals lead cut to one with four minutes left. However, Leonard sealed the deal with another cannon of a shot giving Queens the decisive two-goal advantage.

Queens was able to weather the storm defensively in the second half as the team committed seven penalties.
