Queens Falls in Close Game Against Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C.– The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-17, 1-16 SAC) continued South Atlantic Conference play today at Anderson University (12-10,11-9 SAC) falling in a tightly contested game, 75-69.

Anderson's Mckenzie Gadson would score the first points in the game and then make a free throw to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead over the Royals early, but Queens' Kalaya Hall soon followed to tie the game with a three-pointer. The Royals then took the lead off Caitlyn Moore's layup with 7:40 on the clock, and a jumper from Lauren Fields put them in front, 7-3. Anderson responded getting into a rhythm on the offensive end, outscoring the Royals 18-6 to lead 21-13 at the end of the quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, Christina Deng and Tia McMillian combined for eight points to close the margin to one, 22-21. The Royals still could not quite overcome the Trojans though as Anderson increased its lead back out to 10 before taking a 35-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, the Royals opened the third with the hot hand once again as Fields hit a midrange shot to cut the deficit back to one, but Alexis Tate for Anderson answered keeping the lead in the Trojans' hands. Back-to-back three-pointers from Hall closed the gap to one again at 7:04, and a triple from Kelsey Leedle knotted things up at 45-45 with 3:51 to play. Three ties and four lead changes followed before Anderson ended the quarter ahead, 53-52.

Queens would tie the game up two more times in the final quarter of action keeping the game close, but they were not able to regain control of the lead before the final horn sounded.

Hall finished with 24 points, six rebounds, and five rebounds. Deng added 15 points and seven rebounds. Moore chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
