CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (1-3) faced UNC Pembroke (2-0) this afternoon falling to the Braves in both games of the doubleheader.
Â
Game One: Queens 0 UNC Pembroke 5
Â
It took some time for both teams to get going offensively in game one as just five combined hits were counted through the first five innings. Unfortunately, it would be the Braves who got going in the top of the sixth scoring five runs after what proved to be three costly errors for the Royals in the inning.
Â
McKenzie McCullen led the Royals with two hits and
Shannon McGuire took the loss in the circle after pitching a little over five innings and striking out four batters.
Â
Game Two: Queens 2 UNC Pembroke 4
Â
After the Braves scored in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead, Queens found an answer in the third when
Kayla Smith singled to left field bringing two runners home. Queens held on to its 2-1 lead until the sixth when UNC Pembroke's Emily Biddle hit a home run with two runners to base, recording three RBIs on the play and giving her team the 4-2 win.
Â
McCullen, Smith, and
Ashlyn Mickler recorded one hit each while
Victoria Elder took the loss in game two in the pitching circle.
Â
Queens will look to bounce back on February 19 in Florence, S.C., when they take on Francis Marion in a doubleheader scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
