Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Royals Fall at No. 21 Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-2, 0-2 SAC) traveled to Jefferson City, Tenn., to face No. 21 Carson-Newman University (2-2, 2-0 SAC) this afternoon, falling 105-70 to the Eagles.

Kalaya Hall led the Royals with 15 points, four assists, and three steals. Kristy Hamze added 14 points, while Mikayla Sink totaled 13 points off the bench and three rebounds. Kiana Barkhoff led under the glass grabbing 10 boards to go along with six blocks for the Royals.

Following a strong start in the first quarter that saw the Royals shooting over 45-percent from the floor, Queens led the Eagles, 17-15, at the 3:27 mark. However, the period ended with Carson-Newman going on a 10-4 run to take a 25-21 lead into the second.

Queens found themselves back within two led by a quick four points from Hamze just under two minutes into the second quarter. Hall went to work next scoring six straight for Queens to keep the Eagles within reach but following a layup from Carson-Newman's Lindsey Taylor at 6:32 both teams went cold on the shooting end of the floor for the remainder of the half seeing nothing but points from the charity stripe until Hamze scored three the old-fashioned way with 55 seconds on the clock. The Royals would go 10-11 from the free-throw line in the quarter but it would not be enough to overcome the nine-point advantage Carson-Newman had going into halftime as they led 51-42 after closing with three straight layups.

Carson-Newman really opened the game up in the third quarter outscoring the Royals 35-12 as Queens struggled to keep control of the ball committing 13 turnovers in the period. The Eagles would head into the final quarter of action in front, 86-54. A final surge in the fourth put the Eagles up by as much as 37 points and kept the game out of reach for the Royals.

Braelyn Wykle led the Eagles with 21 points while Skyler Boshears added 20 points. Lindsey Taylor added a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Addison Byrd chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Up next, Queens will travel to Anderson, S.C., to take on the Trojans on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
