Queens Defeats Mars Hill for First Season Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-7, 1-6 SAC) returned home Saturday evening, earning a 74-60 victory over Mars Hill inside Curry Arena. It was the first career win for Queens head women's basketball coach Jen Brown and the first win of the season for the team. 

In the team's return home from a two-game road trip, Queens held Mars Hill to a 38.1 percent shooting performance and forced 11 Lions turnovers. In comparison, the Royals shot 38.8 percent from the floor and held a 46-32 advantage in total rebounds.

Queens fought hard as soon as tip-off begun, battling on the boards and playing tremendous defense. After a back and forth contest, the Royals' found themselves trailing 28-26 at the half.

In the third, the Royals shot over 40 percent from the floor. However, the Lions still held a slight lead, 48-43, heading into the fourth quarter.

Queens began the final period with an 8-0 run to take a 51-50 lead on a pair of free-throws from Taylor Stevens. Two lead changes followed before a three-pointer from Stevens at 6:21 put the Royals in front for good. They then increased the margin to 14-points with a 7-0 run to close the game. 

Stevens finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Hall added 20 points and dished out four assists. Deng finished with a double-double with 12 points and a career-high of 15 rebounds. Amari Davis teased a double-double with nine points and nine boards while Lauren Fields protected the paint with four blocks.

The Royals are back in action on Monday, February 1 at UVA-Wise. Tip-off is at 5:30
