GREENEVILLE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team swept the Pioneers of Tusculum University 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
Queens (6-9, 2-1 IVA) hit .219 as a team, led by 10 kills and .238 hitting performance from junior
Tristan Santoyo. Fellow junior
Josh Bragg followed with seven kills and hit .429 from the right side and led the team with seven digs.
The first set of play was close early on before Queens used a four-point spurt to get ahead 10-7. The Royals' lead extended to as large as seven points, 23-16, before the team secured the win with three consecutive points to end the frame.
The Royals led late in the second set and sealed the win with a triple block from Bragg, Santoyo and junior
JP Payne. Tusculum led 15-14 midway through the third set of action, however, a 7-0 run for Queens put the visitors in front for good as the Royals came away with the sweep.
Queens continues IVA play on Thursday, March 12 when the team welcomes Urbana University (Ohio) to Curry Arena for a 7 p.m. match.
