CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The fifth-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 this season after earning an 18-7 win over Embry-Riddle (1-1) at Dickson Field.
Kyleigh Masteran led the Royals with four goals and one assist for five points while
Rachel Perrett added five points on one goal and four assists.
Allison Conn and
Kara Blanchard each recorded hat tricks while
Ally Blood added two goals and two assists.
Chase Brokaw finished play with 16 saves in the win.
The Royals got going early scoring six unanswered goals by the 18:09 mark not allowing Embry-Riddle to put its first point on the board until 16:01. Five goals then followed from the Royals to stretch their lead to 10, 11-1, and a late goal in the half from the Eagles would give the game an 11-2 score at the break.
In the second, Embry-Riddle opened with a 3-1 push to cut Queens' lead to seven before back-to-back goals from Blanchard put the home team back up by nine, 14-5. Embry-Riddle then answered with a pair unanswered goals of their own before the Royals closed the game with a 4-0 run securing the win.
The Royals outshot Embry-Riddle, 35-31, putting 29 shots on goal. The Royals also won the battle for ground balls, 24-18, but they lost the battle at the draw, 15-12, despite
Shannon Kingston totaling five on the day.
McKenzie Jackson and Ellie Dailey each scored two goals to lead the Eagles. Mary Catherine Kreider took the loss in goal after totaling 11 saves.
The Royals are back at home on Wednesday, February 26 against North Greenville University at 4 p.m.
