CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball returned home to host Limestone College on Saturday inside Curry Arena. The Saints (3-0) came away with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) sweep over the Royals (2-4) after holding Queens to a season-low .085 hitting performance.
Juniors
Nic Cavallaro and
Tristan Santoyo each finished with six kills and eight digs, while fellow junior
JP Payne tallied five kills and hit .400 from the middle.
Queens opened the match with a 5-2 lead before three unanswered points by the Saints tied the score at 5-all. Limestone eventually built a 13-10 lead until the Royals evened the score once again and took 16-15 lead following a kill from junior
Josh Bragg. The lead changed hands three times late in the set as Limestone scored three of the final four points to go ahead 1-0 in the match.
The second set was again a back-and-forth affair early on before an 8-1 run for Limestone forced the Royals to take a timeout down 13-8. The Saints' lead grew to as large a margin as seven points ,18-11, as Limestone grew its lead to a 2-0 advantage.
Limestone was in control early and often in the third and final set, forcing Queens to hit in the negative and steal the road win.
The Royals remain at home for their next match when they host North Greenville University on Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
