Royals Battle With Ball State

MUNCIE, IND. – Playing in their second game in as many days, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball battled with Ball State University before falling by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-23) score inside Worthen Arena.
 
Ball State (2-0) hit .362 on offense and had six service aces, while the Royals (0-2) hit just .188 as a unit. Junior Tristan Santoyo led the team with 11 kills and hit .242 with four total blocks and three service aces, while fellow junior Nic Cavalarro followed with six kills and six digs. Santoyo, Josh Bragg, and Guillermo Jordan each registered five digs on defense.
 
The first set of play featured 12 total ties on the scoreboard with the final coming at 13-all. Queens immediately took a 14-13 lead on a kill from junior Cody Nix before a 3-0 run by Ball State put the Cardinals up for good. Momentum carried over into the second set as Ball State cruised to a 2-0 match advantage.
 
The Cardinals opened the third set with an 11-7 lead as the Royals cut the deficit to one point following Sanotyo's third service ace of the match. Queens eventually evened the score at 17-all as the frame featured four ties down the stretch before Ball State put the match away.
 
The Royals return to the Queen City for the team's home opener on Thursday, January 16, to host Belmont Abbey College at 7 p.m. inside Curry Arena.
