Queens Closes Out Fall Classic with Wins over Barton and Augusta

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The final day of the Queens Fall Classic saw the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team finish weekend with consecutive wins over Barton College and Augusta University inside Curry Arena.
 
Queens 3, Barton 1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-14, 25-16)
 
The Royals opened the first match of the day with seven unanswered points and led by as large a margin as 19-6 en route to a first set win over the Bulldogs of Barton. The Bulldogs quickly responded with a win of their own in the second frame to even the match score.
 
However, Queens hit .215 across the final two sets and held Barton to a .013 hitting performance to seal the four-set victory.
 
Junior Chanel Turner finished with a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs, while freshman Anna McLain tallied 12 kills of her own. Junior Casey Tarvin followed with 10 kills, 25 digs, and four service aces, and senior Mallory Swarts had 46 assists and 12 digs. Junior JayCee Jones matched Tarvin with 25 digs on defense.
 
Queens 3, Augusta 0 (25-18, 25-14, 30-28)
 
Queens made quick work of Augusta, the defending Peach Belt Conference Champions, in the first two sets of play, hitting .371 on offense to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
In the third, the Royals jumped out to an early 9-7 lead before the Jaguars used a 6-2 run to go in front. Queens battled back to tie the score on four separate occasion down the stretch to force extra points. A kill from McLain and an Augusta attack error ended the match with Queens in front.
 
McLain led the offensive charge wit 15 kills and a .522 hitting percentage from the right side, while Tarvin also had 15 kills and hit .324 to go along with 15 digs.
 
Swarts guided the offense to a .301 hitting mark behind 41 assists, while Witt and Lindsey Elmore each finished with nine kills and hit above the .500 mark. Jones led all players on defense with 19 digs.
 
Queens will have a week to prepare for the beginning of South Atlantic Conference play as they take to the road for a contest against Lenoir-Rhyne University next Friday in Hickory, N.C.
