GREENEVILLE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team opened up its four-game road trip with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) loss to Tusculum University on Friday night.
The Royals (7-3, 4-2 SAC) and Pioneers (5-6, 3-3 SAC) were nearly even in all statistical categories except for service aces where 12 miscues ultimately spelled trouble for Queens.
Queens was ahead 23-21 late in the opening set, but Tusculum reeled off four straight points to end the frame and take a 1-0 match lead.
The Pioneers carried momentum into the second set, building a lead of 10-5 early on. Queens battled all the way back to eventually take the lead at 23-22 on back-to-back service aces from junior
Casey Tarvin, however, Tusculum ended the set with three unanswered points to take the set victory.
The third and final set once again saw Tusculum claim the early lead before Queens cut the deficit to one point at 22-21. The Pioneers used two double blocks down the stretch to remain in front and complete the sweep.
Junior middle
Logan Witt finished with 13 kills and hit .417, while fellow junior
Chanel Turner followed with eight kills and a .286 hitting mark of her own.
Senoir
Mallory Swarts dished out 33 assists and tallied 12 digs as
JayCee Jones and
Brooke Farley registered 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Jordan Proszenyak led the team with 13 digs.
Queens is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Wise, Va. to take on first-year conference foe UVA-Wise at 2 p.m
