CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team got back to its winning ways with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15) win over Coker University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.
The Royals improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in South Atlantic Conference play behind a season-high 17 service aces one shy of tying the program's single-match record. Junior
Chanel Turner contributed seven service aces and sophomore
Brooke Farley followed with six of her own.
Queens rallied back from early deficits in both the first and second sets of action to take a 2-0 match lead over Coker (3-5, 1-4 SAC). However, the Cobras hung on to their early lead in the third set and forced Queens to hit just .059 to force a fourth set.
The fourth set opened with five unanswered points for Queens, leading an advantage as large as 23-11 late in the frame. Junior
Casey Tarvin ended the match with a kill, her team-high 13
th of the day. The Leander, Texas native hit .310 from the outside and also collected nine digs.
Freshman
Anna McLain registered 10 kills, while Turner finished with eight kills and 12 digs. Farley contributed 25 assists and eight digs and senior
Mallory Swarts had 20 assists of her own. Junior
JayCee Jones led all players with 21 digs.
Up next for the Royals is a weekend trip up north as the team travels to play Tusculum University on Friday, Sept. 27 and new League member UVA-Wise on Saturday, Sept. 28.
