CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team rebounded from is South Atlantic Conference Carolinas opening loss on Thursday with a convincing 6-0 league win over Newberry College. The win moves the Royals to 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play while the Wolves drop to 1-1 on the year.
Queens dominated offensively today outshooting the Wolves 18-6 to put 10 shots on goal.
Mazvita Mtisi led the way recording a hat trick after putting four of her six shots on goal.
Jenna Lloyd followed adding a pair of goals while
Victoria Tredinnick added one goal.
Avian Thompson recorded this afternoon's win in goal after she and
Marit Noordam teamed up to record the shutout. Noordam totaled four saves in the fourth quarter.
Mtisi got the Royals going with a goal assisted by
Molly Walter in the 12
th minute of play before scoring again in the second quarter to give the home team a 2-0 lead heading in to the halftime break.
In the third, Lloyd struck in the 36
th to put the Royals ahead 3-0.
Maha Clarke recorded her second assist of the day on the play. Tredinnick then found the back of the cage in the final minute of the period to give Queens a 4-0 lead.
Mtisi recorded her first hat trick of the season on a goal assisted by
Millie Eaton-Jones in the fourth. She then assisted the final goal of the day scored by Lloyd in the 56
th minute to give the game a 6-0 score.
Queens is back in action on the road at Mount Olive on Wednesday, September 18 at 3 p.m.
