DURHAM, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team made a statement in its first match of the season, as the Royals won big on the road, 57-8, over Duke University Saturday afternoon.
The Royals were led by freshman
Dominic Tianga and junior
Ben Osborne who each recorded two tries. Five more Royals each posted one try to the board, including
Devinaire Hayes,
Stanton Johnson,
Rylee Ellsworth,
Marshall Frank, and
Benjamin Clipstone.
Freshman
Carson Green also led the team in conversions with four of his own, while his fellow freshman teammate
Ben Stapleton recorded two in the win.
The squad hosts their home opener next weekend against Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, September 21. The men will take the field following the women's match at 3 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.
