Royals Fall in Conference Opener to Crusaders

BELMONT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team opened South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play this afternoon on the road at Belmont Abbey College falling 2-0 to the Crusaders. The loss moves the Royals to 1-2 on the year while Belmont Abbey improves to 2-1.

The Royals were outshot 14-6 putting five shots on goal to Belmont Abbey's eight shots on frame. Jill Sherman led Queens offense with two shots on goal for the day while Sta'sha Waterfield, Victoria Tredinnick, and Jenna Lloyd each added one shot on goal.

The Crusaders' Lauren Delisi helped her team take today's game scoring a goal in the 21st minute. An insurance goal from Angelina Perrone then followed in the 43rd.

Queens saw a few chances to find the back of the cage in the final minute of the opening quarter, but Belmont Abbey's Paige Hinds turned two shots away while a third was blocked. Additional opportunities to put points on the board would come in the final 10 minutes of play on a penalty corner, but once again the Crusaders' defense came up with stops to keep the Royals scoreless.
