Queens’ Historical Season Cut Short in National Semifinals

ALLENDALE, Mich.  – 
The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team had their historical season come to a close this evening in the semifinal round of the NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse National Championship. The Royals, seeded second in the final four and ranked 10th nationally, fell 10-9 to No. 5 West Chester who was seeded third. The loss gives the Royals a 19-3 overall record and snaps a program-record 16-game win streak.
 
After falling behind 5-0 early in the second semifinal of the day, the Royals battled back to score four unanswered goals closing the gap to one, 5-4, with 1:52 left in the half. A goal from the Golden Rams with two seconds left on the clock then gave West Chester a 6-4 lead at the break.
 
Queens opened the second half ready to strike scoring back-to-back goals early to equalize things at 6-6. The two teams then traded goals before the Golden Rams found three in row to move in front 10-7 with 5:47 left in regulation. The Royals answered with less than five minutes to play as Kara Blanchard assisted a pair of goals from Hanna Scott and Allison Conn that brought Queens back within one with 2:53 on the clock.
 
The Royals then saw two chances to tie the game up for a third time in the closing minutes of action, but both shots were turned away by West Chester's goalkeeper bringing Queens' 2019 campaign to an end just shy of the National Championship.
 
Queens was outshot, 31-28, putting 19 shots on goal as the Golden Rams put 22 shots on frame. However, the Royals won the battle at the draw 14-7, and totaled 37 ground balls to West Chester's 27 ground balls.
 
Rachel Perrett led Queens recording a hat trick and one assist for four points to put her over the 100 career-point mark at 102. Katie Wardle added two goals while Blanchard totaled five points on four assists and one goal. Scott finished play with three points on one goal and two assists to close out her career as the Royal's all-time leader in goals (186) and points (327).  In goal, Chase Brokaw recorded 12 saves.
 
Tatum Altman and Sami Barnett led West Chester, each totaling two goals and one assist for three points. Maggie Stella added two goals. Julianne Clemens recorded 10 saves in goal.
