AIKEN, S.C. – The 17
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team fell at the hands of No. 6 Wingate University for the third time this season, suffering a 4-0 loss in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
Wingate, the region's third overall seed, picked up the first point of the day by winning two of three doubles matches, including a win in the top flight by the nation's No. 2 duo of Daniel Belsito and Josep Canyadell who defeated the No. 12 tandem of
Paolo Bompieri and
Joel Dunlap of Queens. In the third flight, junior
Agustin Aran Martin and
Mathias Degardin won 6-2.
Singles play saw the Bulldogs win three consecutive matchups to seal the shutout, including a 6-2, 6-3 victory by Belsito, the nation's 24
th-ranked singles player over No. 68 Aran Martin in the first flight.
The Royals end the 2018-19 season with a 14-6 overall record, including an 8-2 mark in South Atlantic Conference play and a 12-6 record against regional opponents.
