CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 16
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championships this evening with a 16-8 win over Tusculum University at Dickson Field. The win improves the third-seeded Royals' overall record to 12-3 while the sixth-seeded Pioneers close their season at 7-7.
Queens dominated early today using a first-half 10-0 run that spanned across both quarters to build a 13-2 halftime lead over the Pioneers. Tusculum then outscored the Royals 6-3 in the second half, but the large margin built in the first by Queens would be too much for Tusculum to overcome.
The Royals outshot Tusculum, 49-25, recording 35 shots to the Pioneers' four shots in the first. Additionally, Queens put 31 shots on goal and won the battle for ground balls, 35-19. The Royals also won 18-of-27 face-offs with
Drew Flack winning 16-of-20 and totaling 13 ground balls.
Flack,
Kevin Barry,
Laszlo Henning, and
Quinn Tallant, each recorded two goals to lead the Royals offensively.
Kealan Pilon totaled three points with one goal and two assists while
Jesse Oliver,
Justin Swick, and
Mack Tallant had two points each on one goal and one assist.
Liam Macdonald led the Pioneers with two goals and one assist for three points. Ross Geiger recorded 10 saves in goal in 30 minutes of action.
The Royals advance to face second-seeded Catawba College on Friday, April 26 in Wingate, N.C. Queens fell to the Indians during the regular season by a score of 13-12. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
