ROCK HILL, S.C. – The second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team earned a runner-up finish at the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championships after falling to top-seeded Wingate University 4-1 on Saturday morning at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
 
Queens opened doubles play with a 6-2 win from the team of Sebastian Meum and Kasper Rolfsen at No. 3, but Wingate pulled out wins in the second and third flights, respectively, to gain the first point of the day.
 
Singles play began with back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs in the third and sixth flights, respectively, to build a 3-0 match lead. Senior Mathias Degardin gave the Royals a point with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph in the fourth position before Wingate sealed the tournament title with a 6-4-, 6-1 win in the first flight.
 
The Royals will now wait to see if they have earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional next month. The annual NCAA selection show takes place on Tuesday, May 7 at 8 p.m.
