Royals Claim Runner-Up Finish at IVA Championships

HARROGATE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team claimed a second place finish in the 2019 IVA Championships after falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-21) to tournament champion Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon inside Mary Mars Gymnasium.
 
The Railsplitters opened the game with a strong first set of action, hitting .381 en route to a six-point win. Lincoln Memorial's carried over into the second set of action as the team hit .375 and held the Royals to a -.040 hitting performance to go up 2-0 in the match.
 
Queens found life in the third set of play, opening with a 5-1 run, including two kills apiece from sophomores Nic Cavallaro and Tristan Santoyo. The Royals remained in front until four unanswered points propelled Lincoln Memorial to a 12-10 lead. Queens was never able to get within three points of the LMU lead the rest of the way as the Railsplitters clinched their second straight IVA title.
 
Cavallaro led the Queens attack with nine kills and had five digs, while Santoyo finished with five kills in just one set of play. Freshman Caden Frye had six kills of his own and senior Alexander Schinzing tallied 24 assists in his final collegiate contest.
