CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked 16
th nationally, handed Palm Beach Atlantic University a 13-9 loss at home this afternoon to move to 4-1 on the season. The Sailfish drop to 4-3 with the loss.
Kealan Pilon totaled five points on three goals and two assists to lead the Royals' attack while
Quinn Tallant added a hat trick.
Tyler Ewen added three points with one goal and two assists and
Griffin Stechmiller notched two points after dishing out two assists. Stechmiller also recorded three caused turnovers and eight ground balls to lead the Royals defensively. Additionally,
Drew Flack won 15-of-21 faceoffs and tallied nine ground balls while
Kyle Hornik collected the win in goal after totaling 12 saves in 52:05.
The Royals opened play scoring the first five goals of the day to lead 5-0 with 4:20 left to play in the second period. The Sailfish would find the back of the net at 1:59 to cut the home team's lead to four, 5-1, heading into the break.
In the third, Queens extended its lead to six, 9-3, outscoring Palm Beach Atlantic 4-2 in the quarter. Four straight goals scored in the fourth then sealed the Royals' victory as they increased the margin to eight, 13-5.
Palm Beach Atlantic tried to force a comeback scoring the final four goals of the game. However, Queens' defense responded shutting down the Sailfish offense in the final 3:06 of regulation.
Queens outshot the Sailfish, 52-30, putting 30 shots on goal compared to Palm Beach Atlantic's 22 shots on frame. The Royals also won the ground ball battle, 34-20.
Jackson Miller led the Sailfish with three points on two goals and one assist while Zack Figura added two goals. Ben Savick took today's loss in goal after recording 17 saves.
Queens is back in action on Saturday at noon on the road against the fourth-ranked Crusaders of Belmont Abbey.
