CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 12
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team opened South Atlantic Conference play this afternoon defeating Lincoln Memorial University, 16-6, at Dickson Field. The win improves the Royals' record to 6-1 on the year while the Railsplitters fall to 0-2 in league play and 2-6 on the season.
Sitting tied 2-2 with the Railsplitters at the end of the first quarter, Queens would score the only two goals of the second to take a 4-2 lead into the halftime break.
The Royals then blew the game wide open scoring nine unanswered third-quarter points increasing their lead to 11, 13-2, heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
The Railsplitters would outscore the Royals 4-3 in the fourth to give the game its final score.
Kealan Pilon led Queens offensively with five points after recording a hat trick and two assists.
Justin Swick added two goals and one assist while
Laszlo Henning totaled two assists and one goal.
David Byrne and
Matthew Cameron each added two goals. Additionally,
Drew Flack won 14-of-17 face-offs and totaled nine ground balls. In goal,
Kyle Hornik tallied 14 saves.
Queens led the Railsplitters in shots, 43-38, putting 28 shots on goal. The Royals also totaled 25 ground balls to LMU's 17.
The Railsplitters were led by Ian Cook who totaled two goals. Trenton Cameron took the loss in goal after recording 11 saves in 54:11.
Queens will be right back in action on Wednesday, March 20 against Lenoir-Rhyne at home. Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
