COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team placed third to begin their 2019 spring season in a 7-A-Side Tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina Saturday.
The Royals defeated Georgia College's b-squad in their first match of the day, 41-0, led by sophomore
Jharid Morrison with four tries of his own.
Stanton Johnson,
Rylee Ellsworth, and
John Monroe each chipped in one try as well in the win. Morrison recorded two successful conversions along with senior
Lebo Ngwenya who tallied one.
In their second match versus the University of South Carolina, Queens recorded its only loss of the day, 21-5, with their lone try scored by Johnson.
Queens then defeated Auburn University, 19-7, with tries from Morrison, Johnson, and Monroe. Conversion kicks were made by Ngwenya and Morrison as well.
In the final match of the day, the Royals downed the University of Alabama 17-7 seeing tries from
Charles Bradbary, Johnson, and Monroe in the win. Morrison also recorded another conversion to help the squad finish third overall in the tournament out of eight teams.
Next, the Royals travel to Richmond, Virginia to battle the University of Richmond on Saturday, February 16. Play is slated for 9 a.m.
