RICHMOND, VA. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team placed second at the Cardinals Collegiate Rugby Conference (CCRC) 7s Series Tournament Saturday afternoon, hosted by the University of Richmond IM Fields.

The Royals were among 11 other teams in the tournament taking place as a warm-up for the conference tournament, including North Carolina State University, University of Maryland – Baltimore County, University of Richmond, William and Mary, Roanoke College, Old Dominion University (I), Old Dominion (II), Duke University, Longwood University, Emory and Henry I, and Emory and Henry II.

In game one, Queens faced the Blue Devils of Duke University winning 15-5. Sophomore
Rylee Ellsworth led the Royals with two tries along with sophomore teammate
Jacob Morris tallying one of his own.

Queens shut out Longwood University in game two 36-0. Another pair of sophomores led the Royals in the win with
Stanton Johnson and
Charles Bradbary tallying two tries each. Senior
Lebo Ngwenya recorded one try along with
John Monroe who scored one as well. Bradbary recorded two conversions in the match, with both Ngwenya and Johnson also adding one each.

In the semifinal game, the Royals narrowly defeated Old Dominion University (I) 19-17 with tries from freshmen
Doyle Hedgepeth and
Prince-Louis Bush and another from Johnson. Ngwenya recorded two conversions to help advance the Royals to the final game of the day.

With only two tries from Hedgepeth and Monroe, and a conversion from Ngwenya, the Royals fell to North Carolina State 26-12 to place second in the tournament.

The squad will travel to Raleigh N.C. next to take on NC State once again in another Saturday morning matchup March 30. Play is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
