MONTREAT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team opened its 2019 season on Saturday at NAIA Montreat College defeating the Cavaliers 16-2.
Leading 7-2 at the half, Queens would score nine unanswered goals in the second half to grab their first victory of the year.
Fourteen Royals scored in the win as
Jack Bruno,
David Byrne, and
Justin Swick led the Royals in points with three each. Bruno and Swick each had one goal and two assists while Byrne recorded two goals and one assist.
Laszlo Henning also recorded a pair of goals while
Adam Barry added one goal and one assist.
Queens dominated offensively outshooting Montreat 53-21 to put 34 shots on goal.
Kyle Hornik picked up the win in goal after totaling eight saves in 32:15.
Anthony Valenza played 27:45 recorded two saves.
Cody Bischoff and Chris Jackson each scored one goal for the Cavaliers. Taking the loss in the cage was Tristin Terry who recorded 16 saves.
Queens will be at Dickson Field for their home opener on Saturday, February 16 hosting North Greenville University. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
