Carr Leads No. 7/8 Queens Past Emmanuel in Foul-Plagued Contest

Senior guard led four Royals in double figures with 26 points

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Daniel Carr led the way with 26 points as the No. 7/8 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (2-0) defeated Emmanuel College (0-2), 100-91, on Saturday afternoon in a foul-ridden affair at YHC Basketball Arena. Carr went 10-for-13 at the free throw line as the game featured 72 combined free throw attempts and 58 combined personal foul calls.

Queens jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the game's first three minutes when Jay'Den Turner scored five-straight to open the game, Carr turned a fastbreak into a three-point play, and Van Turner Jr. connected on a 3-pointer to give the Royals the early edge.

The first-half lead stretched to 17 when Peanut Cunningham drained two free throws with 10:41 to play, giving Queens a 28-11 advantage.

Despite the lead diminishing to three points late in the first, Queens compiled a 14-4 run in the final 2:29 of the frame, to take a 53-40 lead into the break.

The Royals opened the second half on fire, scoring the first six points, securing a 59-40 lead with 18:24 to play. The lead hit 20 when a block by Gavin Rains sparked a fastbreak that resulted in another three-point play by Jermaine Patterson, putting Queens ahead, 64-44, with 16:12 left.

Emmanuel slowly chipped away at the Queens lead and led by 22 points from Tyonn Stuckey (14-14 FT) and 21 from Michael Wright (7-9 FG, 5-6 3PT), the Lions pulled within two scores, 96-91, with 22 seconds left.

In the final seconds, the Royals broke the Lions' pressure defense for an uncontested two-handed dunk by Jamari Smith, and Patterson collected two steals and two points, to seal the victory.

Queens shot 56.9 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from 3, and 82.9 percent at the free throw line (34-41 FT). Van Turner Jr. scored 15 points, Smith scored 13 with eight rebounds, and Patterson also added 13.

The Royals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, in their home opener versus Lees-McRae College (2-0) at 6 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage will be available on the Queens Sports Network.
