GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team opened its 20192-0 season on Friday evening, falling to the Valkyries of Converse College by a score of 84-77 in the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge on the campus of Limestone College.
After an even first quarter of action, Queens became the aggressor in the second period and got to the free throw line 11 times. The Royals made nine of those attempts and led by as much as seven points en route to a 41-37 advantage at intermission.
Queens held its lead for much of the third quarter until the Valkyries used a 12-2 to go in front and force a Royals timeout. The Royals closed the game to a two-point deficit late in the third, but Converse outscored Queens 47-36 in the second half to secure the win.
Sophomore
Jaymi Golden matched her career-high with a team-leading 21 points, while junior
Kristian Eanes finished with 17 points and five steals. Junior
Caitlyn Moore and sophomore
Jaleah Goff each chipped in 10 points as Goff also pulled down nine rebounds.
Queens is back in action tomorrow night against Limestone College at 7:30 p.m.
