Women's Volleyball Sweeps Anderson to Advance to SAC Finals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team secured a place in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball Championships Final with a convincing 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) sweep of third-seeded Anderson University on Friday night inside Curry Arena.

The Royals, seeded second overall in the tournament, hit .209 as a team as three players secured double-digit kills. Junior Casey Tarvin hit .286 with a match-high 15 kills, while sophomore Lindsay Elmore had 11 kills behind a .391 hitting performance. Junior outside Chanel Turner was the final Royal in double figures, totaling 10 kills and hitting .226 on the pin.

The first set of play featured eight ties and three lead changes with the final time showing Queens ahead 16-15 to force an Anderson timeout. Queens ended the set with consecutive kills from Elmore and Turner to take an early match lead.

Queens led from start to finish the second set, holding the Torjans to a -.049 hitting mark and forcing them into 10 hitting errors. The third and final set was much like the first with 12 total ties and two lead changes as Turner's 10th kill advanced the Royals to the next round of play.

Tarvin also tallied 19 digs for her 18th double-double of the season, while fellow juniors JayCee Jones and Jordon Proszenyak provided 21 and 17 digs, respectively, on defense. Senior Mallory Swarts collected 39 assists.

The Royals will face the fourth-seed Eagles of Carson-Newman University tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. after CNU upset top-seed and 24th-ranked Wingate University in the semifinals. Live coverage will be provided by SACLive and admission to the final is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, military personnel, and children under 12, and $2 for college students with a valid ID. The first 100 Queens students in attendance will receive free admission courtesy of Queens Athletics.
