CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team made quick work of seventh-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University on Tuesday night, sweeping the Bears by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 28-26) score in a South Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal matchup inside Curry Arena.
The Royals (23-5) never trailed in the opening set to claim a 1-0 match lead over the Bears (16-15). Down 13-10 in the second set, Queens scored 11 of the frame's next 13 points to take a 21-15 lead that it never surrendered in building a 2-0 advantage.
The third and final set of action featured seven lead changes and 13 ties on the scoreboard as neither side was willing to give way. With Lenoir-Rhyne ahead 26-25, the Royals quickly tied the score at 26-all before a kill and a solo block from freshman
Anna McLain ended the match with the Royals in front.
Junior
Casey Tarvin led all players with 15 kills and 22 digs, while fellow junior
Logan Witt followed with 10 kills and a .269 hitting performance to go along with four total blocks. Sophomore
Brooke Farley hit .429 from the right side and collected six kills and nine digs, as juniors
Chanel Turner and
JayCee Jones finished with 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Senior setter
Mallory Swarts finished with 35 assists.
Queens now turns it focus to a familiar foe in third-seeded Anderson University. The semifinal matchup is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 from the Levine Center.
