Queens Falls in League Game with Newberry

Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte Royals had their nine-game conference winning streak snapped this evening by Newberry College on the road. The Royals fell 3-2 to the Wolves to move to 9-2 in league play and 11-6 on the year.

Queens found itself trailing the Wolves, 3-0, by the 22nd minute of tonight's game after Newberry scored three quick goals. A response from the Royals' Hanna Nechay in the 26th gave the game a 3-1 score heading into the halftime break.

The Royals then held the Wolves scoreless in the second half of play not allowing them to record a single shot while also putting another point on the board scored by Molly Walter in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, Walter's goal would be the last of night for Queens despite the Royals recording six shots in the final 15 minutes of play.

Queens outshot Newberry 12-9, putting seven shots on goal to the Wolves' eight shots on goal. Avian Thompson recorded five saves in goal for the Royals.

The Royals will wrap their regular season on Saturday, November 2 when they host the University of Mount Olive for Senior Day. A win on Saturday will also clinch the Royals' first-ever regular season conference championship in field hockey. Play is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
