WINGATE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team saw its eight-game South Atlantic Conference winning streak come to an end on Thursday night, falling by a 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 25-11) score to Wingate University on the road.
Queens falls to 15-5 overall and 12-3 in conference play with the loss, while Wingate improves to 21-1 with a 14-1 mark in League play with the win.
Queens began the first set with a 2-0 advantage, including a kill from sophomore
Brooke Farley, before Wingate gained momentum and built a 13-9 lead. The Royals continued to battle, scoring five unanswered points to rally in front by a 14-13 score.
A 4-0 run sparked Wingate to regain its advantage in the opening set before Queens again rallied to take a 21-20 lead following an ace from junior
JayCee Jones. The two sides played to three total ties down the stretch with the final coming at 24-24 before the Bulldogs ended the frame with consecutive points to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Royals again led early in the second set of action, building an 8-5 advantage following a kill from junior
Logan Witt and a Farley service ace. However, the Bulldogs responded with a 5-0 run and never trailed for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-20 triumph.
Junior
Casey Tarvin opened the third set with a kill that led to an eventual 10-4 lead for the Royals, an advantage that stood until Wingate tied the set at 15-all. Queens again used a Tarvin kill to spark a run that put the team in front before the Bulldogs used four unanswered points to gain a 19-18 lead.

Anna McLain immediately tied the score at 19-all as the two sides played to three more ties until Queens closed the frame with three straight points, including kills from Tarvin and senior
Mallory Swarts, to extend the match.
Wingate led from straight to finish in the fourth and final set of action, collecting the match victory to remain on top of the SAC standings.
Tarvin turned in her 11
th double-double of the year, finishing with 21 kills and 12 digs. Elmore totaled seven blocks in the middle and Swarts registered 30 assists and 15 digs for her 10
th double-double performance. Jones led the team with 22 digs on defense, as Farley and junior
Chanel Turner collected 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Queens remains on the road on Saturday, October 26, when the team travels to Hartsville, S.C. for a conference tilt with Coker University at 2 p.m.
