Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Queens Loses Close Battle at Rival Wingate

Wingate, NC - The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (8-5-1; 2-4 SAC) fell short of a potential marquee win at rival, Wingate (8-2-1; 6-1 SAC) by a final score of 2-1.

After a defensive start, Wingate broke the silence with a goal from Morgan Zanardi off a deflected shot by Brianna Ditillo capturing a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs maintained the advantage until Queens junior forward Emma-Rose Stockton evened the score with a shot over the head of Wingate goalkeeper Abby Frail. Stockton has scored a goal in each of the last three games for the Royals.

Wingate wasted little time getting back in front scoring the game-winning goal two minutes later on a chip from Ditillo off a cross from Taylor Krakower.

Queens nearly tied it in the final 15 minutes with a pair of blocked shot attempts from Stockton and freshman forward Nia Gaither. The match was competitive from start to finish, but Queens fell on the wrong side of a 2-1 final.

Queens returns home Saturday, October 19th with a home bout with Coker University at 5 p.m.
