Women’s Volleyball Splits Home-And-Home Series with Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA. – A five-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday night for the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team as the Royals fell by a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22) score to the Jaguars of Augusta University inside Christenberry Fieldhouse. Augusta was able to avenge an early-season loss to Queens in the Levine Center in early-September.

Following a first set that saw both sides hit above the .400 mark, Queens (12-4) held Augusta to a .114 hitting performance to claim the second set and tie the match at 1-all.

Queens opened the third frame with a 6-1 run before Augusta rallied to tie the match at 10-10 and take the lead for good at 13-12. The Jaguars four of the set's final six points to take a 2-1 match lead.

Augusta led for much of the fourth and final set as Queens was able to tie the score at 22-22 on a double block from sophomore Brooke Farley and redshirt-sophomore Gabbi Montgomery. However, the Jaguars scored three unanswered points to seal the home victory.

Junior Casey Tarvin, the reigning South Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, led the Royals with 17 kills and 18 digs to complete her fifth straight double-double. Fellow junior Logan Witt followed with 13 kills and hit .300 in the middle, while another junior, Chanel Turner, chipped in 12 kills and a.297 hitting performance on the outside.

Senior setter Mallory Swarts tallied 40 assists, while junior JayCee Jones had 14 digs and freshman Mallory Pazin finished with a career-high 10 digs on defense.

The Royals return to the friendly confines of Curry Arena this weekend when the team hosts Tusculum University and UVA-Wise on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Friday's contest against Tusculum is Funnel Cake Friday sponsored by S&K Funnel Cakes. The S&K Funnel Cake food truck will begin serving funnel cakes prior to the match at 5:30 on the Levine Center lawn.
