CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team put together a fourth quarter rally to overcome a double-digit deficit before falling 75-72 to Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday night inside Curry Arena.
Queens (6-12, 1-11 SAC) took control early, leading 6-1 after the opening 1:40 following back-to-back layups from sophomore
Kristian Eanes and another from senior
Lade Adepoju. The Bears (10-9, 5-6 SAC) eventually tied the score at 10-all before closing the quarter on a 10-4 run to lead by six.
The Bears controlled the second quarter of action an carried a 10-point lead into the halftime break. Following intermission, LR built its advantage to a 20-point margin with 1:17 to play in the third before Queens closed the period with seven unanswered points to cut into the deficit.
Across the opening four minutes of the final quarter, Queens used a 12-6 run to cut the deficit to single digits. The Royals got within two points of the LR lead following a 3-pointer from senior
Ceara Leavai and a layup from Eanes, but the Bears knocked down two free throws in the final 10 seconds to keep the lead intact.
Eanes led the Royals with 18 points, making 8-of-15 shots from the floor and had five steals, while Adepoju followed with 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals of her own. Freshman
Jaleah Goff chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds as fellow freshman
Jaymi Golden finished with 10 points.
The Royals are back on the road on Saturday, February 2 as they travel to Harrogate, Tenn. for a rematch with Lincoln Memorial University.
