CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Shaun Willett scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, as the 17th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (13-2, 5-0 SAC) defeated Virginia Union University (5-7, 2-1 CIAA), 102-85, on Thursday night at the Levine Center. Willett's double-double was his NCAA-leading 12th of the season, as Queens earned its eighth-straight win, and its sixth in a row by double figures to complete the season sweep of VUU.

Daniel Carr followed with 17 points, while Lewis Diankulu and Blake Morrow each scored 11. Kenny Dye added 10 points as Queens shot 52.7 percent from the field, and made 15 3-pointers on 46.9-percent shooting.

The Royals took a 9-7 lead into the first media timeout of the game after Willett threw down a right-handed tomahawk jam on the fast break to put Queens ahead with 15:36 left in the first.

Queens extended the lead to 12, 22-10, at the 11:52 mark of the first after a 3-pointer from Carr capped a 13-2 run out of the timeout.

With 8:17 remaining in the first half, Willett caught an alley-oop from Kevion Blaylock that stretched the Queens lead to 34-15. The lead hit 21 points for the second time with 4:46 left in the first, when Willett's third of four dunks, put Queens up 43-22.

The first-half lead hit as many as 22 points when Van Turner Jr. connected on his second of three 3-pointers with 1:00 left in the half, giving the Royals a 51-22 advantage.

Playing in front for the whole second half, Jachai Taylor's jumper gave Queens its largest lead of the game, 94-62, with 5:31 remaining.

The Royals held the Panthers to 34.9-percent shooting. William Jenkins led Virginia Union with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Terrell Leach scored 13 while Jordan White and Demarius Pitts each scored 12.
