CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-9) loss to fellow Independent Volleyball Association member Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.
The Railsplitters (5-2, 1-0 IVA) hit .363 as a team in the match and collected 14 total blocks, including 10 from middle Pedro Carvalho. In contrast, the Royals (1-6, 0-1 IVA) hit a season-low -.156, committing 25 attack errors.
After Queens earned the first point of the match on a solo block from
Cody Nix, Lincoln Memorial took control and never trailed for the remainder of the three sets of play.
The Royals kept the third set close in the early going, trailing by just two points until four unanswered points built the Railsplitter lead to six. LMU scored the frame's final five points to seal the road win.
Sophomore
Nic Cavallaro led the Royals with five kills and six digs, while fellow sophomore
Jack Mitchner had 12 assists in just two sets of action. Sophomore liberos
Ruben Greenstein and
Conner Nagaki each had four digs on the back row and Nix tallied four total blocks.
Queens continues conference play on Tuesday, January 29 when the team travels to Hartsville, S.C. for a match against Coker College at 7 p.m.
